Task
The assignment was to create a brochure as if I was an adviser for incoming high school freshmen. In the brochure has to be memory techniques outlined and helpful hints for studying. This ranges from retrieval cues like elaborative rehearsal, maintenance rehearsal, chunking, mnemonics, method of loci, and distributed practice. Some of the helpful hints I actually did mention for studying were using distributive practice of studying overtime. This causes practice to not become overwhelmed at once.
Benefits
From the assignment I learned concepts of memory to a better extent. I was ale to find examples for memory techniques which gave me a clearer understanding. For example, the method of loci is deealing with well-known locations. Therefore if I link the pathagorithm theorem with right triangles, I would be able to remember the pathagorithm theorem equation whenever I see a 90 degree angle.
Likes/Dislikes
If I had the choice of doing this assignment differently, I wouldn't. I like how my memory brochure came out. However, I did like the formating I set up my information in. I also like how I explained the concepts of memory and how information is processed in the mind.
